Tour OverviewArgentina is the second largest country in South America after Brazil and stretches between the Andes and the South Atlantic Ocean. It has a total area of 2,780,400 sq.km. and a population of 45,800,000. It took its name from "argentum" (silver), the precious metal that the first European colonies supplied from the area. The country of tango, also known for soccer, gastronomy with the best beef in the world, fine wines and open-hearted people, is a dream destination. It enchants every traveler with its rich morphology, its culture and offers countless options for every taste.
On this trip we will start with the capital Buenos Aires discovering its cosmopolitan and diverse neighborhoods. We will then move south to Tierra del Fuego and Patagonia where we will hike through the national parks and admire the majestic mountains and glaciers. Cruising we will see penguins and sea lions up close. Finally, we will visit the impressive waterfalls of the Iguazu National Park in the north of the country.Ηighlights of this journey:

Arrival in Buenos Aires and transfer to the hotel. Walk in Recoleta.
Arrival at the airport and transfer to Buenos Aires, a city characterized as one of the most beautiful in the world, bustling with life, artistic events, tango music, full of prestigious buildings and green parks. After settling in the hotel we will take a walk in the Recoleta neighborhood, an emblematic neighborhood of the city, where the historical cemetery of great Argentine personalities and other beautiful historical buildings and museums are located. In the afternoon we will gather for a briefing on our travel schedule followed by a welcome dinner.
Visit to the neighborhoods of San Telmo, Boca and Puerto Madero
Morning tour to the most bohemian neighborhood of the city, San Telmo. We will see the old market, traditional small shops and enjoy the artistic atmosphere that overflows the streets. Then we will visit the colorful folk neighborhood of Boca of the popular football team Boca Juniors, Diego Armando Maradona's team, where the heart of Argentine tango beats. We will walk the small and much-photographed street "El Caminito" and see tango dancers unfolding their talent. The day will end with a walk in Puerto Madero, on the old docks of the port where today there are elegant skyscrapers, bustling bars, restaurants and the famous "woman's bridge" by Calatrava. Optionally, at night a spectacular tango show with professional dancers can be arranged.
Morning walk to the Microcentro, the city center where we will visit the Obelisk, the symbol of Buenos Aires and the Colon Theater. Then we will see the Casa Rosada presidential palace, the May square and the cathedral where the mausoleum of the general and national hero of the country Jose de San Martin is located. Fly to the city of Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego
We will then fly (3.5 hours) to the city of Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost inhabited city in the world. A city of 75,000 inhabitants also known for its port where cruises to Antarctica depart.
Hike to Laguna Esmeralda and visit Tierra del Fuego National Park
In the morning we will start with a hike (8.7 km, 250 m elevation gain, approx. 4 hours) to the impressively beautiful “Laguna Esmeralda” lake, passing through a dense forest. We will continue with a visit to the national park of Tierra del Fuego, named from the fires that the natives used to light in sight of ships at the time of Magellan, the first European to arrive in the area. This park is located on the border with Chile and is characterized by wild landscapes. It is home to the southernmost post office, the southernmost train line and the southernmost road in the world.
Morning cruise (5 - 6 hours) by catamaran in the Beagle Channel, named after the British ship HMS Beagle in which Charles Darwin did his research and journey to the ends of the world. We will pass islands and islets where South American seals, penguins and many seabirds find refuge. We will also pass by the iconic lighthouse “Les Eclaireurs”. The day is dedicated to a special hike (10.5 km. 600 m elevation gain, approx. 7 hours) to the Vinciguerra glacier, the largest glacier in Tierra del Fuego, and the “Laguna de los Tempranos” lake. We will cross meadows, forests and rivers and after walking by the lake we will continue to the glacier where, if we are lucky due to the weather and season, we will admire the ice caves formed on its edges.Hike on the trail of the Vinciguerra glacier
Fly to El Calafate in Patagonia and drive to El Chalten
In the morning we will depart from the city of Ushuaia and fly (1.5 hours) to the city of El Calafate in Patagonia. Then we will cross by road (about 3.5 hours) the Patagonian steppe, natural home of guanacos, a type of wild llama, to the village of El Chalten which is characterized as the capital of hiking in Argentina. In the afternoon we will take a walk in the village which is located at the base of the impressive mountains of the longest mountain range in the world, the Andes.
Hike to Laguna de los Tres below the summit of Fitz Roy
Hike (19 km, 900 m elevation gain, approx. 8 hours) to the lake “Laguna de los Tres” passing through a wonderful forest. A hiking route of incomparable beauty with a view of the "Piedras Blancas" glacier and one of the most beautiful mountains in the world and trademark of Patagonia, Fitz Roy. This is the most demanding hike of the trip as just before the lake there is a steep height difference. Return by another path passing through different landscapes.
Hike to Laguna Torre and drive to El Calafate
Hike (18 km. 540 m elevation gain, about 5 - 6 hours) to the glacial lake “Laguna Torre” where we will admire the small icebergs floating on its surface, and in the background, the glacier and the impressive peak “Cerro Torre". There are very few climbers who have conquered this peak, as the climb is considered by many to be the most difficult in the world. We will return to the village by the same path and in the afternoon we will drive (3.5 hours) to the city of El Calafate, where we will spend the night.
Visit Perito Moreno glacier
On this day we will be lucky enough to visit a natural wonder. This is the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the largest glaciers to visit in the world, 5 km wide, 30 km long and 80 m high covering an area of 250 sq. km. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has breathtaking views . We will walk on the specially constructed corridors of the park, with a total length of 5 km and we will enjoy the glacier from different viewpoints. After our visit we will return to El Calafate
Explore El Calafate and fly to Buenos Aires
This day we will have free time to explore the town of El Calafate. A small and beautiful town of 6,000 inhabitants, on the shores of Lake Argentino. The lake with the turquoise waters is the largest in Argentina with an area of 1,415 sq. km and a depth of 500m. It is formed by the surrounding glaciers and from its banks you can see lots of birds that it hosts, such as flamingos, bandurrias, swans and ducks. In the afternoon departure from El Calafate and flight (3 hours) to Buenos Aires for an overnight stay.
Mini Cruise in the Paraná Delta. Fly to Puerto Iguazu
Starting in the morning by train from Buenos Aires we will reach the small town of Tigre in about an hour. From there we will cruise in the Parana river delta by wooden boat. In this delta, the waters of the Paraná and the Uruguay River join and form the "Río de la Plata", the widest river in the world with a width of up to 220 km. At noon we will fly (2 hours) from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazú, a city of 40,000 inhabitants built in the tropical jungle vegetation. In the afternoon we will visit the city center and the tri-national, that is, the point where we can see, apart from Argentina, two other countries (Brazil and Paraguay) as well as the union of two rivers, the Iguazu and the Parana.
Visit the national park and the Falls of Iguazu. Guided tour of a Guarani indigenous village
The day will be dedicated to Iguazú National Park and its stunning waterfalls, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. 275 waterfalls with a total width of 2.7 km and a maximum height of 82 meters with an annual average flow of 6,500 cubic meters per second create an incredible sight forming a natural border between Argentina and Brazil. We will have the opportunity to admire several viewpoints of the river and the waterfalls with the highlight “Devil's Throat”. In the afternoon a special experience awaits us as we will be guided by a local guide to a traditional settlement of the Guaraní indigenous people, where for centuries, they have lived in huts in the jungles of the area and to this day preserve their language and customs.
Excursion to the Wanda amethyst mines. Fly to Buenos Aires
Morning excursion to the Wanda amethyst mines next to the village of the same name founded by Polish settlers in 1936 and named after one of their princesses. We will walk through the tunnels accompanied by a local guide. There is also a store of precious and semi-precious stones and souvenirs for those who want to make their purchases. In the afternoon we will fly (2 hours) to Buenos Aires and stroll through Palermo Soho, a district full of colors, nice graffiti and cobbled streets, famous for its wide variety of restaurants, bars and the best patisseries - gelato shops in the city!
