Trip IntroductionOlympus mountain, based on Greek mythology, was the residence of the 12 ancient gods. It is the second highest mountain in the Balkans and since 1938 it has been declared the first national park of Greece. The area is ideal for the lovers of alternative activities, such as trekking, canyoning, rafting, and climbing.
It is undoubtedly the most popular mountain in Greece. The impressive height, the fabulous charm is a pole of attraction for thousands of visitors from every corner of the world. Trails and hiking routes that cross the mountain give the opportunity to hikers and visitors to get to know the varieties of flora and fauna, but also its natural beauty.This trip package is addressed to the real mountain lovers who will enjoy a daily 3-6 hours trekking on the pathways of the mountain and will not mind being accommodated in the common rooms of the mountain refuges.
At this excursion we will have the chance to go hiking in the mythical mountain of Greece. Overnight stays will take place in the traditional stone-built shelters of the mountain where they offer warmth and delicious food. Mountaineering on Olympus is not only a divine experience but also an option covering all levels of difficulty and stamina. For this trip a prior trekking experience is required. It is recommended for participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases to consult their doctor before any hike. - ITINERARY
Hike to Petrostrougka refuge
We will depart at 8.30 for a 5 hour trip to arrive at Lytochoro, a village at the foothills of Olympus. We will drive towrads the starting point of our path at the area of Gortsia. We embark on a 3 hour hike passing through a rich forest of pine and fir trees until we reach our destination for the day. That is the refuge of Petrostrouga surrounded by a beautiful beech forest and stunning rooibos. The time is just right to catch the sun setting before we enjoy our dinner and overnight stay at the refuge.
Hike to Muses plateau - Tumba peak - Sleep at refuge house
The day starts early as we need to depart by 08.00 towards the Muses plateau, named after the inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the arts. During this 5-6 hour stunning hike we will see how the mountain’s ecosystem transforms, from dense forest to alpine terrain, as we head towards higher altitudes. At about 13.00 we will reach the refuge that will host us for today. There we have a 2 hour break to get acquainted with the space, get a warm tea, or socialise with local climbers. Then we head straight to the peak of Prophitis Elias at an altitude of 2.781m and the close by peak of Tumba at 2.786m. A breath taking view of the Aegean Sea while the sun is setting is the perfect closure of our hikes. Upon our return to the refuge a well deserved dinner and a drink are all we need to complete the day
Descent the mountain - Lunch in a tavern - Return to Athens
We wake up at 7am and have a breakfast until 8. Departure at 9am, for our way back. We will start hiking a 5-6 hours descending path to arrive to Prionia location. We have 1-hour relaxing and lunch at the traditional tavern. Departure for Athens. - INCLUDES

Food and water in Greece
Greek food is absolutely excellent and very healthy. It is a huge part of Greek culture. The colourful Mediterranean diet of tasty dishes alongside a fantastic range of fresh vegetables and salads, the excellent ingredients, the lengthy procedure involved in preparing the food, the culture of sharing dishes with others, eating with friends or with the family, it is social event where you get to share a lot more than just food.
