    Hike Olympus the highest mountain in Greece, home of the greek ancient Gods

    Ηiking Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece, and world-wide known for being home to the gods of the Ancient Greek Mythology, is an unforgettable experience. Home to diverse flora and birds, it became the country’s first ever national park in 1938, and with an extensive network of trails Olympus is a magnificent destination for hikers. It is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular mountains to climb, due to the nature of its landscapes, and its endless views to the Aegean sea.

    Meteora, are famous all over the world for its gigantic rock pillars and monasteries that are built on the rocks' summits, a unique worldwide UNESCO monument. Ιs one of the largest Greek Orthodox communities in Greece, and a must-see site for everyone visiting the country.

    Physical Condition & Experience Requirements

     For this trip a prior hiking experience is required.  It is recommended for participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases to consult their doctor before any hike.

    DAY1 Button

    Travel to Olympus mountain - Hike to Petrostrougka refuge hut

    You arrive in Litochoro, a picturesque town at the foot of Mt. Olympus. This is where most hikers start their hikes to the mountain. You then drive towards the starting point of the trail. You will start at an altitude of 1110m, and after a 3-hour hike in a pleasant rich forest trail of pine and fir trees you reach your final destination for the day, the Petrostrouga mountain hut. Time to relax while enjoying a stunning view at the Aegean sea and the high summits.

    Hike to Muses plateau - Tumba peak - Sleep at refuge house

    The day starts early as you need to hike up the Muses plateau, named after the inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the arts. During this 4-5 hour stunning hike you see how the mountain’s ecosystem transforms, from dense forest to alpine terrain, as you head towards higher altitudes. A small but friendly refuge will accommodate you ideal to have a break to get acquainted with the space, get a warm tea, or socialise with local climbers.

    After lunch and relaxing time, you could hike to the nearby peaks  such as Profitis Ilias at an altitude of 2.781m or the peak of Tumba at 2.786m - just above the refuge to admire superb views of Mt Olympus summits. A breath taking view of the Aegean Sea while the sun is setting is the perfect closure for the day.

    DAY3 ButtonDescent the mountain -  Transfer to Meteora.

    If you choose to climb to Mytikas, the highest summit of Olympos you need to know that is is not that easy.  (rock scramble). At the top of Mytikas (2918m) you will see one of the most magnificent views in Greece. On a clear day, you are able to see as far as Albania and Bulgaria in the North, and Chalkidiki penisulla.

    Reaching the summit is quite challenging, so we recommend you to take all the necessary safety measures. Local, experienced mountain guides of the refuge can take you to the top with an extra cost, using ropes and harness.

    After the summit, is time to descent the mountain and arrive to your car. The you drive towards Meteora for overnight

    DAY4 Button   Meteora - Return to Athens.


    Meteora, famous all over the world for its gigantic rock pillars and monasteries that are built on the rocks' summits, a unique worldwide UNESCO monument. Meteora is one of the largest Greek Orthodox communities in Greece, one of the most imposing sights in Greece and a must-see for everyone visiting the country.

    Today you have one more challenge on the rocks. You are going to explore this magnificent scenery from the best ever viewpoints following a magnificent via cordata route. The route you  will follow, it is an ancient path curved by the monks in the Middle Ages who lived in the ruined monastery. It is a scramble walk that leads to one of the highest rocks of Meteora where you will enjoy breathtaking views from the top. After the activity the tour is completed. You can either return in Athens or stay and explore the area

    Accomodation

    During this journey we will stay in cozy family run hotel, ranked as 3 star. The accommodation will be based on double occupancy and if you are travelling by yourself, you will be paired up with another single client of the same sex.

    For two nights we will stay in mountain refuges.Those are dormitory style with shared facilities.

    Essential information for your trip

    Food and water in Greece

    Greek food is absolutely excellent and very healthy. It is a huge part of Greek culture. The colourful Mediterranean diet of tasty dishes alongside a fantastic range of fresh vegetables and salads, the excellent ingredients, the lengthy procedure involved in preparing the food, the culture of sharing dishes with others, eating with friends or with the family, it is social event where you get to share a lot more than just food.

    Breakfasts will be taken at the overnight guesthouses, buffet style and usually they offer bred, jam, honey, local yogurt, traditional homemade pies, fresh juices, coffee and tea.
    Dinners usually include starters, fresh salad and of course local recipes and delicatessens.
    All the places on this trip have drinkable water from the tap to fill your personal water bottles. Please check with the tour leader at the various location
